The secret was out early of the 2016 NBA Draft that Ben Simmons would go first overall to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers faithful breathed a huge sigh of relief when Simmons himself posted “Trust the process” on his Instagram account in the days leading up the draft. So on June 23, 2016, the journey from a 7-year-old kid shooting baskets in Australia to becoming the first pick in the NBA Draft was completed for Simmons. The Sixers made him their first No. 1 pick since choosing Georgetown guard and 2016 Naismith Hall of Fame inductee Allen Iverson with the top selection 20 years previous.
He went on to become the only player in NBA history to begin a season with at least 170 points, 100 rebounds and 80 assists in his team's first 10 games. On 29 November, he had career highs of 31 points and 18 rebounds in a 118–113 win over the Washington Wizards. On 1 December, he was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for games played in October/November. On 7 December, he recorded his third triple-double of the season with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists in a 107–104 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers
