Product Details

On the evening of Wednesday 16 November 2005 before a capacity crowd at Telstra Stadium (the Olympic Stadium), the Socceroos booked their place amongst the game's elite by qualifing for the 2006 World Cup.

It had been a long wait for the Socceroos, having qualified only once before, in 1974.

The Socceroos came into the game against Uruguay one-nil down, however a 35th minute goal from Marco Bresciano gave Australia hope.

Middlesborough keeper Mark Schwarzer saved two penalties in the shoot out before John Aloisi calmly slotted the goal that would give Guus Hiddink's Socceroos World Cup glory.
