Product Details

In 2015, Sports Online was proud to introduce a range of Muhammad Ali signed and beautifully framed photos obtained from one of the most renowned collectors in the United States.

Final 3 of this piece in stock.

Each comes with a Sports Online Certificate of Authenticity signed by Dr David Poole, SOL's owner and one of Australia's foremost experts on the career of Muhammad Ali. The piece has also been authenticated by Australian Sports Authentication Services (ASAS). The signed photos were obtained from Pete Morkovin of Knockout Collectibles (USA), a renowned collector of Ali memorabilia and regular at Ali's Deer Lake training camp.

In early 1978, Muhammad Ali lost the WBA and WBC heavyweight titles to an unheralded newcomer, Leon Spinks. After the fight, Ali accepted the loss with both grace and determination. ‘He fought a good fight and never quit. He made fools of everybody, even me. We all lose in life. We all have losses, and what you have to do is keep living, overcome those losses, and come back. You can’t just go and die because you lose. I did my best.’

On 15 September of the same year, Muhammad Ali returned to defeat Leon Spinks and claim the World Heavyweight Championship for an unprecedented third time. 63,532 people packed the New Orleans Superdome for the rematch. Ali’s plan was simple – ‘Jab, jab and throw the right hand. If he got in close, tie him up. No rope-a-dope. Fight the whole time in the centre of the ring. And throw lots of punches at the end of each round. Closing a round right impresses the judges’. Ali won a unanimous decision and, given the drama created simply by Ali’s presence in the ring at the age of 36, it was a memorable night for fans around the world.

Limited edition of 20. 8 images surround the central, signed photograph and full details of the bout are provided.
